June 20, 2013 Guantanamo 9/11 pretrial sketches

Today's court session was shorter for observers today, truncated by a closed 505 session.
My main goal was to get the view the victim family member see. I was able to sit behind them and get their perspective. One held up a photo of her family member so that if the detainees turned, they would see it. I also wanted to show KSM's involvement in the proceedings. He's always rifling through documents and in frequent conversation with his defense attorneys.
We continued to hear testimony via video from Adml Woods, and then at the end of the day, live testimony from Cpt. Thomas Welsh, who will continue to testify tomorrow.

RIP James Gandafini

Saddened to hear of James Gandafini's passing today. Truly a shocker. In an homage to him, here is a piece I'd done some years ago.

June 19, 2013 Guantanamo 9/11 pretrial sketches

Today I drew from the monitors up on 'the hill' because they give me the best possible view of the detainees. I was able to cobble together the full court view by cheating the perspective and putting the 6 monitor views together.

GTMO 9/11 pretrial sketches, 6-18-13

What a day in court.  Myspectator glasses, which I have used for 3 years there now, were banned today... hoping to overturn. Was happy to sketch victim family members though- this is for them.

June 17, 2013 Guantanamo 9/11 pretrial hearings sketches

Back in Guantanamo to sketch pretrial hearings for the 9/11 five accused. Today we heard testimony via video feed from retired Rear Admiral Bruce Macdonald. There is now so much paperwork and files on tables that visibility of the accused from the viewing gallery has become even more challenging. The bottom three were done by looking at monitors.
